I’m a big fan of staycations and I really think people need to do more of them! Trust me, I know the excitement of getting out of town or out of state, exploring somewhere new, etc but with the busy holiday season upon us – sometimes that’s not feasible. Sometimes a one night staycation will give you the same adventurous refreshment you need without breaking the bank (or taking PTO)!
I had the opportunity to do my own little staycation at Hotel Landing and really, it was just what I needed. While this stay was sponsored, these views below are all my own. Located in Downtown Wayzata it’s a quick 20 minutes from both downtown Minneapolis and my home too! It’s positioned right off of Lake Street, within walking distance to the heart of downtown Wayzata. Read on below on my top 5 reasons to do a staycation with Hotel Landing!
Relaxation at Läka Spa
I’ll be the first to admit here – I don’t regularly visit a spa. Of course, I wish I did, but sometimes the idea of spa treatments tend to scare me a bit! (Is this weird or do you feel the same?) One thing you’ll feel right away at Läka Spa is the friendliness and comforting presence of their staff. I never once felt out of place, nervous, or unsure of what I was getting into. The Nordic details also made me feel calm and at home. I had a 50-minute massage with Heidi, and she walked me through everything, let me pick out my massage oils (go for the Northern Breeze – it’s a refreshing scent mixed with eucalyptus) and made sure I comfortable. The massage was absolutely amazing and afterward, I loved hanging out in the relaxation room by their fireplace. I can’t wait to come back and book a facial or steam shower next!
Dinner at ninetwentyfive
Most of the time when hotels have restaurants attached – I’m skeptical. Of course a restaurant attached to the hotel is most convenient – but sometimes it’s usually the relationship with the hotel that’s keeping the restaurant afloat. But that was definitely not the case here. Ninetwentyfive could easily stand alone. The waitstaff, the ambiance, the cocktails, and food were out of this world. It’s like modern meets Midwest on their menu and everything I read sounded amazing. We ended up ordering multiple plates to share and I don’t think we have one bad bite.
Our server, Brian, was accommodating and so helpful with recommendations. He steered us in the right direction, starting off with the PEI mussels, Burrata, and cheesy potato croquettes. I’m usually not a big fan of mussels, but the chimichurri sauce had me coming back for more. The burrata was so fresh, being stretched in-house. We had to take a breather in between courses because everything was SO good already.
Well, we proceeded to be impressed even more. I, of course, went for the scallops with cauliflower 3 ways and Eric got the tenderloin with crispy brussel sprouts, but our tie-breaker was the Pappardelle Bolognese. The pasta is made fresh in house and the sauce with the lamb and pork was mouth-watering. The whole meal was a grand slam. We walked out with our tummies full.
Room Amenities
Of course like any boutique hotel, you receive the common amenities that you’d expect. Within Hotel Landing, you get the soft robe and slippers along with your Keurig and Caribou Coffee in the morning which is always a nice plus, but I want to talk about the bathroom amenities. First off they have full-size pump soap and lotion. I don’t know about you but I really dislike using bar soap. I always have! So not only do they give you full-size pump lotion and soap, but they also give you full-size shampoo, conditioner, AND shower gel. This may be an amenity overlooked but honestly, it made my experience better. Also – if you’re staying for more than one night, it’s a bit annoying using multiple bottles of mini everything – it’s so wasteful! Lastly, the cherry on top – they had lip balm. My very own pot of lip balm! I often forget and lose my chapstick everywhere so for me to have my own right there – perfection.
Location
I’m a fan of a great location for a hotel. If there are things within walking distances – it makes me a happy camper. I love the location of Hotel Landing because you really are near everything. There are plenty of shops across the street, a Dry Bar right next door, Penny’s coffee a block down the street, and more restaurants to boot. A perfect staycation to me has a well-rounded itinerary of activities to do and you can definitely fill yours out while staying here. Not to mention you’re a hop, skip and a jump to bathing yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka!
Staff
You will leave feeling like a king or queen after staying at Hotel Landing. I’m not joking when I say that every staff person I passed during my stay, absolutely killed me with kindness. From the gentleman who checked me in, to the ladies at Laka Spa, Brian and Jenn at ninetwentyfive, and the valet who kindly took my photo when I asked too, everyone was so accommodating and friendly to me. It’s really stood out as star service in my eyes and when I keep thinking about me experience the staff is the thing that comes top of mind!
