10 Unique Airbnbs in Minnesota – 2022

While the list is endless for Airbnbs now in Minnesota, if you sift through long enough you’ll find some pretty unique ones! I’ve rounded up what I think are some of the most unique Airbnbs around the state. From treehouses to tiny houses and everything in between (including in a jail) read on to see some unique options if you’re looking to get away and experience something new!

Live Klarhet Geodome – Lutsen

One of the coolest ones in my opinion that launched recently are the Geodomes in Lutsen. Embark on a unique dome experience in 25 acres of forest! Klarhet means clarity in Swedish and that’s their hope when you stay there is to live in clarity. Imagine waking up to the sunrise and watching the stars above at night! Each dome is cozy and had a kitchenette, fireplace, rainfall shower, and was crafted to showcase an alternative living environment.

Silo Farm Stay – Clear Lake

Take a prairie retreat and have a farm stay in a silo! The barn and Silo were built in 1909 and while the barn still serves as a working barn today, the silo was retired and then turned into an Airbnb. With the unique tower and stairs, this is more geared towards ages 12+. It’s a great place to escape with beautiful views on over 600 acres with trails, ponds, and wildlife! You can bring your own fishing pole to fish too!

Hungry Hippie Hostel – Grand Marais

One of my favorite stays to date is the Hungry Hippie Hostel. Owners Kate and Jeremy converted their barn into a clean, cozy, (and affordable) lodging accommodation! The Hungry Hippie Hostel features 6 private rooms with comfy queen beds and have wonderful views of Lake Superior and the surrounding boreal forest. They also offer 3 sets of bunks in our bunkhouse loft, sleeping 6 guests total. Recently, they also added their seasonal glamping Tents too! I can’t recommend this place enough if you’re looking for a fun way to experience Grand Marais! Read more about my experience at the Hungry Hippie Hostel with my blog here!

Each room features a great view of a beautiful environmental lake, Little Charlie, and lots of privacy. They all have modern features and are extra cozy and private! A great escape for any time of year!

Ely Log Cabin – Ely

Completely solar-powered cabin, this off-grid log cabin lives on 40 acres. The owners Addie and Ben have such a passion for this property as they are constantly making updates to this already beautiful cabin. Think local recommendations, local artist features, and little personal touches to make you feel well taken care of. It has a Lofted bedroom, cozy fireplaces, and even options to use the outhouse!

Luxury Tree House – Cottage Grove

A great option for a close and quick getaway and the only treetop house in the metro! The Treehouse at Hope Glen Farm is a luxury 7 room suite with 4 outdoor decks, 2 fireplaces, a 2 person Jacuzzi and a tower and is situated on a historic farm and next to a 500 acre park. It has a bedroom with a queen-size bed, a den (secret room) with a standard size hide a bed and 2nd bathroom, in addition to a full kitchen, dining nook, living room, and full bathroom with rain shower.

Hemlock Yurt – Esko

Enjoy the tranquil Hemlock Yurt nestled in the trees overlooking a farm field just 20 minutes outside of Duluth, on the border of Jay Cooke State Park! Try a hybrid experience between camping and staying in a cabin, or ‘glamping’ while being surrounded by nature and wildlife, sheltered by the canvas ‘yurt’ and sleeping in a comfortable bed. This 315 sq foot yurt runs by solar power too!

Tree Top Escape – Cross Lake

If you’re looking for more luxury unique, don’t pass up the beautiful and newly constructed Tree Top Escape in Cross Lake! This two-story treetop cabin “Bear’s Den” is perfect for families or a romantic getaway too. It has an open floor plan with a great fireplace to keep cozy. The best part has to be the large deck to overlook the treetops! It is within walking distance from everything that Crosslake has to offer too!

Historic Wykoff Jail Haus – Wykoff

This historic Jail Haus was built in the late 1800’s and is still owned by the city of Wykoff. The space consists of two small rooms with a bathroom. They have a queen-size comfy bed and for the adventurous, two jail cell bunks!  Close to bike trails, trout fishing, Forestville State Park, and cave exploration, you won’t find a more unique stay that’s only about 40 minutes south of Rochester. Playgrounds, restaurants, convenience/gas stations are all within walking distance of Airbnb too!

This is just a starting list to get you going so definitely let me know if there are any others that are your favorite that I should add to the list! More Airbnb lists coming soon! 🙂
