A Weekend Stay in the House Of Light

Labor Day is always a special weekend for Eric and I because we now have a tradition with ending summer in our favorite place ever: Grand Marais.

I’d be lying if I told you we stay at cute, Instagram worthy places every time. In fact, we usually stay at crappy hotels in town because honestly, that’s all we can afford with the holiday weekend prices!

This year, we were extremely lucky to be invited by Cascade Vacation Rentals to stay at one of their most stunning properties on the North Shore, the Grand Marais House of Light. As I write this it’s only been 6 days since we’ve left but we are still talking about our dreamy stay in the Grand Marais House of Light.

I knew this custom built home was going to be quite a delight for us. Immediately after opening the front gate I felt a sense of home that I knew wasn’t going to go away for the rest of the weekend.

We walked into a cozy space lined with light-colored walls from top to bottom, complete with a cork floor that we ended up really loving on our feet! This house is called the Grand Marais House of Light rightly so because of all the natural light coming in.

We especially loved the gas fireplace, cozy dining corner, and the perfectly sized kitchen for the two of us. We woke up every day to a heated tile bathroom floor (which was perfect in the crisp mornings), hot coffee, and an overall sense of zen for the whole weekend. We spent many nights cozied up watching Netflix, drinking cocktails by the fireplace, and making wild rice soup. The house is equipped for everything you may need during your stay complete with a gas stove/oven, dishwasher, washer/dryer, coffee maker, microwave, and full fridge.

Anyone staying here will see the love and detail that went into building this beautiful home. From the hanging flower baskets, the Adirondack chairs on the front deck, and the colorfully woven rugs that line the floor, this home is an exceptional place to rest your head during your stay in Grand Marais.  Not to mention it’s the perfection location, just a block away from shops and restaurants and you even can see the water from the sidewalk outside the house. Imagine waking up, walking down to grab a maple latte from Java Moose to sip along the shore as you walk down to get World’s Best Donuts. Also, did I mention it’s a 1-minute walk to tacos?! That’s a win in my book. 

I’m already dreaming of my next visit here. It’s hard to get back to reality when every morning you wake up in bliss!
